I picked up this book as an informational piece as I’m thinking of beginning to invest a little bit on the side. It’s full of wonderful knowledge and resources on stock trading and actually provided me with the insight I really need to get started.

I found a great place to trade in here for a really low price, as well as, learned a few of the basic tax reporting laws. If you are just getting started trading in the stock market, then definitely give this book a try!

I new very little about investing in stocks before reading this book. I learned about different stock index’s, what the stock index’s represent, the different types of stocks and how they react and move based on the numbers,etc.

I especially liked the section on how to read individual stock stats and understand what it means. It also shows you where to open a stock brokerage accounts that charge less than $5/trade.

I finally made my first stock buys and it was very easy to do online. This book took the fear out of investing in stocks for me. Very useful information.

I thought this book overall was 98% fluff. The section on financial statement analysis was fair but still rather weak. Ian tells you to look for companies that are small, earning a profit and are growing but doesn't dig deep and cover any good examples on analyzing a specific business or company that meets the fundamentals that he discusses. It would have been very helpful if he could have covered the fundamentals then look at a couple of successful and unsuccessful examples or case studies applying the fundamentals. He does mention a few stocks that he recommended through his website that did decent but doesn't teach you well on how to do the analysis yourself. He doesn't cover much on earnings or asset valuation which I was very disappointed. I don't think he mentions anything discussing book value or digging deep into the balance sheet comparing net asset value or book value to market value. All very high level discussion with a big push to his website. Overall, I felt the book was inspirational when it comes to investing in small cap stocks but very weak on the practical application of security analysis. Price is what you pay and value is what you get. Save your money and stick to the teachings of Ben Graham whose principals are timeless. I’ve read a lot of value investing books including The Intelligent Investor, Security Analysis, and any book on Warren Buffett or Benjamin Graham that I could find. I thought this book overall was 98% fluff. The section on financial statement analysis was fair but still rather weak. Ian tells you to look for companies that are small, earning a profit and are growing but doesn’t dig deep and cover any good examples on analyzing a specific business or company that meets the fundamentals that he discusses. It would have been very helpful if he could have covered the fundamentals then look at a couple of successful and unsuccessful examples or case studies applying the fundamentals. He does mention a few stocks that he recommended through his website that did decent but doesn’t teach you well on how to do the analysis yourself. He doesn’t cover much on earnings or asset valuation which I was very disappointed. I don’t think he mentions anything discussing book value or digging deep into the balance sheet comparing net asset value or book value to market value. All very high level discussion with a big push to his website. Overall, I felt the book was inspirational when it comes to investing in small cap stocks but very weak on the practical application of security analysis. Price is what you pay and value is what you get. Save your money and stick to the teachings of Ben Graham whose principals are timeless. As Buffett says, “…those who read their Graham and Dodd will continue to prosper”.

Every young adult (and many older adults) should read this book. They will be much better off financially if they do. It is short and concise, but it explains the essence of investing. The author points out that stocks have appreciated at a rate of about 10% a year over long periods of time (somewhat less when inflation is considered). However, most average investors realize much less than this because their gains are eaten up by management fees and by the human tendency to follow the herd and buy and sell at the wrong times. EXCELLENT BOOK ON ETF AND INVESTING, March 27, 2012

ETF TRADING AND INVESTING STRATEGIES is a great book packed with information to learn how to be a savvy trader. If you are looking to increase your marketing exposure and to be more diversified with your portfolio, I highly recommend this book. I have been an accountant for 30 years and have two professional designations, and I have yet to see a better book on ETF’s.
